Community Engagement

The Goshen Public Library & Historical Society is proud to be an active and contributing member of the Goshen Central School District community. The Library facilitates community connections, citizen involvement, support for local non-profits, and thoughtful, relevant philanthropy. School Outreach

The Library supports the school curriculum with reading lists and known homework and research assignments, assembles materials for teachers upon request, and provides space for tutoring and group study. The Library also engages with students onsite at our local schools.

CJ Hooker Middle School
Library provides curriculum support and volunteer activities enabling students to fulfill their community service requirement for Junior National Honor Society membership.

Early Intervention of Orange County
Library provides programming to support children with developmental conditions and space for therapists and counselors to meet with students and families. 

Goshen High School
Library provides curriculum support and volunteer activities enabling students to fulfill their community service requirement for National Honor Society membership.

Goshen Intermediate School
Youth Services librarians visit the grades 3 – 5 classrooms to promote participation in the summer reading program.

Goshen Science Olympiad Team
The Library provides space for coaching and team meetings.

John S. Burke Catholic High School
Library provides volunteer activities enabling students to fulfill their community service requirement for National Honor Society membership.

Homeschooling Families
Library provides a parent and teaching collection, curriculum support, and space in the Just for Kids area for homeschooling families to socialize and collaborate. 

Orange-Ulster BOCES
Library is a School-to-Work Program partner providing students with valuable authentic community work experiences. 

Scotchtown Avenue Elementary School
Youth Services librarians visit first-grade classrooms in the fall to encourage signing up for a library card and visit the grades K-2 classrooms in the spring to promote participation in the summer reading program.

SUNY Orange Bridges Pathway Program
Library is a life-work partner providing students with an opportunity to practice life and work skills.

Civic Involvement and Philanthropy 

The Library actively advances the shared goals of an informed and philanthropic society by engaging with local, state, and national organizations. 

Boy Scouts of America
Library provides support for earning badges, Eagle Award projects, and space for meetings. 

Catholic Charities (Orange Sullivan Ulster)
The Library is a stop on the self-guided Goshen Christmas House Tour, an annual fundraiser. 

Child Care Council of Orange County, Inc.
The Library supports the Council’s annual children’s used book drive that provides books to day care facilities.

Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan
Partners with Library on its philanthropic efforts.

Fearless! Reclaiming Our Safety.
Library hosted a collection drive for health care and hygiene products for victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse, human trafficking, and crime victimization assisted by this organization.

Partner with Library to provide an outstanding historical lecture series and teen programs. Also provides support for Summer Reading Programs for adults, teens, and kids, the Museum Pass Program that provides admission and reduced admission to ten different museums and attractions, and the Past Perfect and other valuable software platforms and resources in the Local History Room.  

Girl Scouts of America
Library provides support for earning badges, projects for silver and gold awards, and space for meetings.

Goshen Chamber of Commerce
The Library is a member of the Chamber and participates in Great America Weekend.

Goshen Community Coalition
The Library Director and a Board member volunteer with this organization dedicated to bringing Goshen together to meet the opportunities and challenges of our evolving community.

Goshen Ecumenical Food Pantry, Inc.
The Library serves as a permanent collection site for the food pantry. 

Goshen Lions Club
Library collects used eyewear and provides space for meetings.

Goshen Public Library & Historical Society Foundation
Provides funding for Library initiatives and capital improvements.

Goshen Senior Center
Partners with Library around senior programs and issues related to aging. 

Keep it Moving
Partnered to provide NARCAN training for the staff and community members. 

LiveOnNY
Library provides space for organization to share information on organ donation and register donors.

New York State Assembly

Library supports the New York Assembly’s Summer Reading Challenge program.

Sponsors of the annual Big Band Orchestra concert on the library lawn and patio.

Orange County Department of Health
The Library supported the efforts of the Orange County Department of Health to survey Orange County residents about health care in Orange County.

Library participated in the Summer 2023 RCLS Road Trip encouraging residents to visit all 47 RCLS libraries.

Program Partnership

The Library works closely with local organizations to present high quality community programming that entertains, informs, and educates. Collaboration for these programs is extensive and includes sharing resources and expertise to deliver unique programs to the community. 

Cornerstone Theatre Arts
The Library sponsors Shakespeare in the Park and other performances and educational programing provided by Cornerstone Theatre Arts. 

Goshen Historic Track
Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame
Partnered with Library to deliver the multi-generational award-winning program, “Baseball at the Orange County Driving Park: Celebrating the History of Baseball and Harness Racing in Goshen, NY” in 2022.

Music for Humanity
Partnered with the Library to deliver a series of community concerts held at the Library.

Community Home 

The Library is a shared community resource for hosting and promoting programs by and meetings of local businesses and community organizations. 

Since all programs at the Library are free, they are accessible to all regardless of financial circumstances, making our programming space an important community asset.

AARP Foundation/ Hudson Valley CA$H Coalition
The Library hosted three month-long AARP Tax-Aide Clinic offering free in-person assistance for filing federal and state income tax returns.

Access: Supports for Living
Partnered with Library to provide programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, such as adult coloring classes and adaptive yoga and zumba classes.

Al-Anon “Let it Begin With Me”
The Library provides meeting space.

Alzheimer’s Association (Hudson Valley Chapter)
Partners with the Library to deliver programs and informational services. 

American Sign Language
Library provides space for students to study and learn ASL.

Cornell Cooperative Extension – Orange County Master Gardeners
Partners with Library to deliver environmental programs around sustainability and gardening.

Goshen Joint Parks & Rec
Partners with Library to deliver weekly Chess Club. Library participates with crafts and activities in annual Halloween Costume Parade as well as other community events.  

Regina Hewitt (Functional Healing, The Mind-Body Connection)
Presents workshops on stress management and general health and well-being.

Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties
Presents programs on advance directives and other issues around aging. 

Inspire
Partnered with Library to provide programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, such as adult coloring classes and adaptive yoga and zumba classes.

Noble Pies
Presents unique cooking and healthy eating workshops.

Hudson Valley Paws for a Cause
Provides therapy dogs for periodic visits to Library for stress relief programs.

New York Blood Center
Library hosts blood drives.

Our Father’s Farm
Provides therapy alpaca visits at the Library for stress relief programs.

Tri-State Historical Fencing Club (Montgomery, NY)
HEMA Alliance
Four-part program provided at the Library by non-profit for the research, teaching, and promotion of Historical European Martial Arts.

Wallkill Valley Fiber Arts Guild
Library provides space and support for a monthly gathering of those interested in all types of fiber arts.
