JUST FOR KIDS!

LIBRARY NOTES

What A Summer!  We had over 400 members of our three reading clubs: The Book Quackers, CannonBall Readers and Teen Wave Riders.  We would like to congratulate everyone who participated.  Overall, the students read over 2,500 books including at least 1,000 water themed books which stocked our kids with lots of Silly Bandz.  We also had tons of fun during our Duck Duck Dewey duck hunt and I know you have given our over 200 duckies good homes. Now that you will all be better students for all that reading, we are looking ahead to fall and the new school year.  Kitty will be running our Get Ready for Kindergarten program on Wednesday August 18th from 10:30-11:15 and we will be having our School Year's Eve Party on Tuesday August 31st from 5-7pm.  Check our events calendar to register for these great get back to school programs. Our Story Hours will be starting up again this fall.  Our lottery registration system will begin on September 15th.  For those of you new to the area or to the programs, we fill the programs by a lottery system.  Come into Just for Kids starting on the 15th.  Bring your library card and fill out a registration sheet with your choices for times.  You will then pick a number and we will assign class times based on those numbers.  You can pick up your class assignments starting the week of September 20th. Also coming up will be our second attempt at a costume exchange.  You can drop off any gently used costumes during the week of September 13th.  Kids have grown out of certain sizes or just cleaning out your closets?  We will take them!  Then during the week of the 20th, we will have our Costume Collection on display.  On Monday, we will open it up to those who donated costumes to give them first pick. Then from Tuesday through Thursday, we will have them out from 10-12 and then again from 4-7 to choose one costume per child.  Please be on the lookout for our brochures coming home with your kids from school or stop in to get one at the Just for Kids Area.  Our theme this fall is Myths and Legends.  Please remember that most of our programs do require a pre-registration.  While we would love to have everyone who wanted to participate come, due to lack of space and budget we usually can only accommodate a smaller group.  If you have registered and can't make it, please let us know ASAP so we can offer the space to someone on a waiting list.  Also if you are on the waiting list, please know that we will call you if there is a cancellation.  Nothing pains our hearts more than having to say "no" to the little face in front of us waiting at the doors to see if they can get in. Once again thanks for having fun with us this summer and we look forward to a fabulous fall!

ONLINE PATCH CLUB

Welcome to the online patch club!  All ages can join and families are encouraged to participate.  When you are in the library, stop in to the Childrens' Room to get your name on our Patch Club Bulletin Board.  Click on the patch at the left to find this month's activity. When you have finished, bring the completed project to the Children's Room to get your patch.  Every month will be a new activity to complete and a new patch to earn!  Patches can be ironed onto bags, sashes or hats.  Hats will be available for purchase at the circulation desk.
